Anna’s garden started as an initiative from team Green Science Park to create an ecological garden in the area between the main entrance of the FNWI and the circuit around the Science Park. Over time, it has turned into a community garden where volunteers from around Amsterdam come to enjoy working in the garden together and learning about permaculture and other gardening related activities.
Anna’s Tuin bases its activities on 4 pillars. These pillars are that the garden is a:
- Meeting place: A place at science park where the natural and social meet. Wonderful for a walk during the day or to have lunch under the sun.
- Living lab: Partnering with the University of Amsterdam, currently Annas receives several fieldwork lessons from multiple courses as specific middle term researches including biodiversity, soil and pest control.
- Educational center: We receive schools for ecologic outdoor lessons as well as host permaculture workshops and courses.
- Urban farm: Using permaculture as a guideline, we currently have a full kitchen organic garden and a food forest in expansion.
With weekly working days on Sundays, food forest gardening on Wednesday and monthly themes for relaxed Thursday activities, we create a nice community where everyone is always welcome to come into the garden to help out or enjoy the nature created within our city.
